Frequently Asked Questions
What is integrative counselling?
Integrative counselling means I draw on multiple therapeutic approaches (Psychodynamic concepts, CBT, Transactional Analysis, etc.) to tailor our work to your unique needs and goals.
Who do you work with?
I support people experiencing depression, anxiety, stress, trauma, relationship difficulties, bereavement, life transitions, and more. If you’re simply feeling “stuck,” counselling can help you clarify what you need.
Where are you based, and do you offer online sessions?
I’m based in Bletchley, Milton Keynes, and offer both face-to-face sessions and online sessions via secure video.
Are you insured and part of membership body?
Yes—I carry professional liability insurance (through Balens) and I am a member of the NCPS, adhering to their ethical standards and principles. I also undertake regular clinical supervision, through which I benefit from guidance, support, and professional development.
How do I book an appointment?
Email me at thevalleycounsellor@gmail.com or use the contact form below to request a free phone call or book a session directly.
Do you integrate faith or spirituality into sessions?
While my Christian faith informs my values of hope and compassion, I work with people of all backgrounds. You decide if and how spirituality features in our time together.
What happens if I need support between sessions?
I’m happy to have brief check-ins via email (during my working hours), though formal counselling happens in our scheduled sessions. I would be happy to explore together options for self-care and building a network of support for yourself as part of our work.
How confidential is counselling?
Everything you share is held in strict confidence, within the ethical guidelines of NCPS. Notes are stored securely, and I only break confidentiality if there’s a safeguarding concern.
How do I know if counselling is right for me?
I offer a free 15-minute phone call so we can discuss your concerns and see if we’re a good fit before committing to a full session.
What happens in a first session?
In our first 50-minute session we’ll explore what brings you to counselling, your goals, and how we might work together. You’ll have space to share what feels most important to you.
Why does our first session need to be online?
My in person work is located at my home address, and therefore I have a policy of meeting people online first. After our initial session, you will then be free to choose whether working in-person or online is more preferable for you.
Where are your in-person sessions located?
I work from the conservatory of my home address, accessed round the side of my house. The exact address will be shared after our initial online session.
Please note: as much as I hope for my counselling space to be as accessible as possible for everyone, unfortunately I am unable to provide access to a toilet. There is also a small step into the room we will use so please talk to me if this could be difficult for you.
What are your fees and payment options?
-
Standard sessions (9am–3pm): £60 (in-person or online)
-
Early morning/evening sessions (7am–9am, 6pm–9pm online): £70
-
Payments are by bank transfer in advance
What is your cancellation policy?
Cancellations within 48 hours of an appointment are still charged in full. Please give as much notice as possible if you need to reschedule.
Do you offer specialised support (e.g. for firefighters)?
Yes—I have first-hand experience of trauma in emergency services. If you’ve worked in that field, we can tailor sessions to address sector-specific stresses.
What qualifications and training do you hold?
I have completed my L4 Diploma in Integrative Therapeutic Counselling I am currently undertaking a Level 5 CPCAB Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling. I also continue my professional development through a wide range of courses and through my clinical supervision.
